Variscite enhances SMARC line with i.MX 8M Plus

Variscite unveils a new SMARC-compatible system-on-module. The VAR-SMARC-MX8M-PLUS is designed for low-power embedded systems, leveraging NXP’s i.MX 8M Plus processor. It targets edge systems requiring efficient AI inference, offering robust security features to align with EU Cyber Resilience Act standards.

Variscite has launched its inaugural SMARC-compatible system-on-module, the VAR-SMARC-MX8M-PLUS, built on NXP’s i.MX 8M Plus processor. This new module is tailored for low-power embedded systems, offering a strategic shift towards standardised module footprints. It features a dedicated NPU and image signal processor, making it ideal for industrial gateways and HMI endpoints where local decision-making is crucial.

Connectivity is a highlight, with dual Gigabit Ethernet controllers supporting IEEE1588 for precise time synchronisation. Security is robust, integrating a TPM 2.0 device to meet EU Cyber Resilience Act requirements. Variscite plans to release samples and evaluation kits in Q1 2026, with further expansion in the SMARC line anticipated.
