Bridgnorth Aluminium (BAL) has announced a significant investment of £600,000 in a refurbished Schmutz line at its Stourbridge Road facility. This installation marks a pivotal enhancement, enabling the company to process thinner gauge aluminium materials. The newly upgraded equipment will provide essential slitting and winding services for aluminium reels, destined for customers across Wales, the EU, and the US. Completion of the commissioning is anticipated by March, aligning with the company’s recent return to 24/7 operations in key areas.
Adrian Musgrave, Commercial Director at BAL, remarked on the positive start to the year, highlighting increased export orders and the acquisition of new domestic clients. “This is all being achieved against a backdrop of global uncertainty,” he stated, attributing success to the management’s long-term strategy and the workforce’s resilience following a challenging 2023.
The investment not only positions BAL as a world leader in flat rolled aluminium coils for diverse applications but also supports its strategic focus on electrification and data centre markets. The installation of the Schmutz line has prompted a recruitment drive, expanding the finishing team by 10%. Additionally, BAL has launched a focus group to enhance employee engagement and retention, contributing to its participation in the Shropshire Investors in Community scheme.
Bridgnorth Aluminium continues to advocate for aluminium as a critical mineral in the UK’s path to Net Zero, emphasising its commitment to innovation and local economic development. For further information, visit www.bridgnorthaluminium.co.uk.
