Silverson Machines continues to lead the industry with its extensive range of mixing solutions, spanning from laboratory mixers to full-scale production machines capable of processing up to 30,000 litres. This comprehensive product line includes in-tank, top-entry mixer models equipped with interchangeable rotor/stator workheads, designed to adapt to a wide array of products.
Unlike conventional stirrers and agitators, which are confined to basic tasks such as blending liquids of similar viscosities, Silverson Batch mixers excel in various applications. These mixers efficiently eliminate agglomerates, create stable emulsions and suspensions, reduce particle sizes, and rapidly dissolve solids. Each mixer, featuring a precision-engineered Silverson rotor/stator workhead, drastically cuts processing times by up to 90%, significantly enhancing quality, product consistency, and process efficiency.
The flexibility of these mixers is further enhanced by the option of a mobile hydraulic floor stand, allowing seamless movement between vessels. Beyond reducing processing times, Silverson Batch mixers can also decrease processing costs. For instance, they can produce a 66 Brix sugar solution at ambient temperature, eliminating the need to heat water. Solid resins, typically costly to dissolve, can be rapidly solubilised at ambient temperature using these mixers.
Full yield is attainable when mixing gums and thickeners, as the Batch mixer draws powders into the rotor/stator workhead, hydrating and dispersing them before agglomerates form. This process can eliminate filtration stages, enabling product reformulation with reduced gum content. Batch mixers are also utilised for reclaiming waste materials, such as disintegrating mis-shapen sweets to reclaim sugar. Silverson mixers are effective in disintegrating and dissolving individual or clumped products.
Reclamation applications extend to chocolate, rubbers, polymers, paper, and even excess pasta. A food manufacturer recently acquired three Silverson Batch mixers to rework excess pasta, aiming to save costs and reduce waste. Silverson demonstrated the creation of a slurry from waste pasta for incorporation into new batches, reducing raw material costs and waste disposal expenses. The savings forecast indicates the mixers will pay for themselves within two years.
Silverson Batch mixers can operate as stand-alone units for a wide range of applications, completing the entire mixing process. For more complex tasks requiring sub-micron particle sizes, these mixers serve as effective preliminary processing steps before colloid mills or high-pressure homogenisers, preventing equipment blockages further down the line.
For in-tank mixing applications beyond the capabilities of conventional agitators but not requiring the intense shear of a rotor/stator mixer, Silverson offers the Ultramix. This single-shaft, single-piece mixing head design provides efficient in-tank movement, ideal for rapidly wetting out gums, thickeners, or shear-sensitive ingredients. The Ultramix is available as a Top-entry or Bottom Entry unit, suitable for low-volume or ultra-hygienic applications in the pharmaceutical and food industries.
In addition to their top and bottom entry in-tank mixers, Silverson’s product range includes Laboratory, Pilot Scale, In-Line, and Powder/Liquid mixers.
