Johnson Controls reveals Metasys 15.0 automation system

Johnson Controls unveils Metasys 15.0, its latest automation system. Engineered for mission-critical environments, Metasys 15.0 offers unmatched scalability and resiliency. It equips facility managers with tools for optimising performance, ensuring compliance, and accelerating decarbonisation.

Johnson Controls has introduced Metasys 15.0, its premier open building automation system, designed to cater to the stringent demands of mission-critical environments. Metasys 15.0 promises unparalleled scalability, built-in resilience, and instant energy intelligence, providing facility managers with the necessary tools to optimise building performance, ensure compliance, and expedite decarbonisation.

The system’s new features include support for up to 1,000 IP devices per server — a 60 percent increase over most current Building Automation Systems — alongside multi-server redundancy for simultaneous backup. It also offers a preconfigured, ready-to-use Energy Management suite that provides real-time insights and actionable data.

“Building operators today must navigate a complex landscape of energy goals, operational demands, and evolving workforce needs,” stated Kaishi Zhang, Vice President of Product Management for Building Automation Systems at Johnson Controls. “The latest release of Metasys delivers a secure, intuitive BMS platform that ensures reliability, simplifies energy oversight, and reduces reliance on specialised labour — essential for deploying across critical applications where performance and uptime matter more than ever before. We’re thrilled to launch this highly anticipated release, a technology that symbolises the roots of Johnson Controls and where our experts continue to redefine building automation.”

Key features of Metasys 15.0 include market-leading scalability with support for 50,000 objects and 1,000 IP devices per server, making it feasible for deployment across large healthcare campuses, universities, or multi-site enterprises without the need for costly hardware upgrades. By enabling IP devices to communicate directly with the server, organisations can cut infrastructure costs by up to 60 percent, eliminating the necessity for intermediary components.

The system also offers 24/7 data resiliency through new multi-server redundancy, ensuring critical alerts, trends, and audit logs are backed up on two Metasys servers simultaneously. This feature supports operational continuity, data availability, and compliance in mission-critical environments like hospitals and data centres.

The Energy Management suite provides ready-to-use applications for easy access and understanding of data across energy management, engineering productivity, and cybersecurity, enhancing operations and planning. Additionally, fast industry configuration enables facility managers to configure and manage the system directly using a web client, reducing equipment setup time by nearly 95 percent compared to previous versions, and eliminating the need for server shutdowns or external support.

Metasys is renowned for its interoperability as an open BAS solution, recognised by field technicians for its ability to support a wide range of third-party IT and OT protocols such as BACnet, MSPP, M-Bus, and more.

As a cornerstone of Johnson Controls’ product ecosystem, Metasys facilitates seamless integration across a wide array of building technologies, unlocking energy efficiency, system-wide optimisation, and thermal performance. Combined with Johnson Controls’ advanced HVAC, fire, and security technologies, as well as the OpenBlue smart building ecosystem and a network of over 40,000 field and service technicians, Metasys can deliver lower operating costs and a stronger return on investment.
