Kopparberg increases ABV with Sweet Vintage expansion

Kopparberg launches two new high-ABV cider variants. The introduction of Strawberry & Lime and Mixed Fruit flavours aims to meet the rising consumer demand for robust fruit ciders. These additions to the Sweet Vintage line signal a strategic move to capture younger demographics in the mature high-ABV category.

Kopparberg is sharpening its focus on the high-ABV cider market with the launch of two new variants — Strawberry & Lime and Mixed Fruit — expanding its successful Sweet Vintage portfolio. Both new products boast a 7% ABV, crafted to meet the growing consumer preference for stronger, bolder fruit cider experiences. This move follows the success of the original Sweet Vintage Apple and Pear offerings, which amassed $3.4 million in retail sales value over the past year. The success of these initial products indicates a promising opportunity for manufacturers in the traditionally mature higher-ABV category, now attracting a younger demographic.

Kopparberg has observed that the high-ABV cider segment, historically appealing to older consumers, is experiencing a surge in interest from younger drinkers seeking more pronounced flavour profiles. By incorporating its two most popular flavour combinations — Strawberry & Lime and Mixed Fruit — into the Sweet Vintage line, Kopparberg aims to drive incremental growth within the category.

Rob Salvesen, head of marketing at Kopparberg, remarked on the strategic product positioning: “Our Sweet Vintage Apple and Pear variants have been a standout success, resonating with younger consumers and bringing excitement back to higher-ABV cider. Extending this success to our most iconic flavours — Strawberry & Lime and Mixed Fruit — allows us to combine the unmistakable taste of Kopparberg with a fuller-bodied, higher-strength cider that fits perfectly with high-tempo occasions.”

This product development underscores a growing trend where manufacturers leverage established, high-appeal flavour profiles, integrating them into higher-strength formats to capture market share during key social and high-tempo occasions. The move exemplifies how established brands can innovate by adjusting ABV and flavour concentration to enter new consumption moments.
