E.ON Next, in collaboration with Northern Powergrid, has introduced a pioneering battery storage initiative aimed at alleviating fuel poverty in Crowle, Lincolnshire, and Starbeck, North Yorkshire. This trial provides households with batteries that store electricity during off-peak hours, reducing energy costs without requiring changes in usage patterns.
Launched in June, the initiative leverages E.ON Next-funded batteries to store cheaper, off-peak electricity — typically available between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. — for use during peak demand periods from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This approach not only stabilises grid demand but also ensures significant savings for participating households.
The trial includes complimentary home insulation, enhancing energy efficiency and maximising battery value. Ramona Vlasiu, COO of E.ON Next, emphasised the benefits, stating, “Batteries are fast becoming the smart choice for customers looking to cut their bills and take greater control of their energy use.”
Participants incur no upfront costs and receive comprehensive support from E.ON Next. The batteries, installed externally, are both quiet and discreet. Residents in Crowle and Starbeck who own their homes are encouraged to apply for the trial, with further details available here.
The trial also features testimonials from participants like Janet from Knaresborough, who noted the dual benefits of environmental impact and reduced electricity bills. Similarly, Crowle resident Pete Thomas highlighted the lack of downsides, while Angus Townley expressed optimism about increased grid stability and personal savings.
With only 30 spaces remaining, E.ON Next and Northern Powergrid urge interested residents to apply by the end of November to benefit from the £40 monthly credit and free installation. More information can be obtained by contacting E.ON Next at 0800 404 5020 or via email at hi@eonnext.com, including “NPG battery” in the subject line.
