Siemens and Airbus have fortified their long-standing partnership with a new contract aimed at decarbonising Airbus’ major industrial sites in the US and UK. This initiative marks a significant milestone in Airbus’ strategy to reduce its environmental impact through targeted reductions in CO2 emissions and energy consumption.
Under this framework agreement, Siemens will deploy scalable decarbonisation solutions tailored to specific sites, enabling Airbus to achieve an annual reduction of 80 kt CO2e by 2030. Siemens’ Buildings business, supported by Capgemini, will lead the project, combining their expertise in sustainability and digitalisation.
Siemens will evaluate and create a decarbonisation masterplan for the sites, resulting in solutions to cut energy demand and emissions. Key measures include decarbonising heat production with heat pumps, energy efficiency upgrades, smart metering systems, and on-site integration of renewable energy. These efforts aim to reduce energy consumption by 20% and Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 85% by 2030, compared to 2015 levels.
Capgemini will assist Siemens in initial consulting activities, governance, and project management. Their expertise in digitalisation will enhance the energy monitoring systems. Susanne Seitz, CEO of Buildings at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, emphasised the collaboration’s potential to reduce Airbus’ carbon footprint and enhance operational resilience.
The project commenced in summer 2025, with infrastructure rollout set for 2026. Siemens may also maintain the infrastructure to ensure efficiency and resilience. This agreement builds on over half a century of collaboration between Siemens and Airbus, supporting Airbus’ sustainability goals.
