Wärtsilä’s agreement enhances Brazilian power plant operations

Wärtsilä secures a major agreement with Âmbar Energia. The five-year operation and maintenance contract covers three power plants in Manaus, Brazil, integrating performance targets for uninterrupted power availability. The agreement highlights Wärtsilä’s commitment to operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness, underpinning a robust partnership with Âmbar Energia.

Wärtsilä, a leading technology group, has entered into a five-year operation and maintenance agreement with Âmbar Energia, part of Brazil’s J&F Group. This contract involves an outcome-based performance model for three power plants in Manaus, each delivering 92 MW through five Wärtsilä 50SG engines. These facilities, uniquely converted to run on natural gas, underscore Brazil’s pioneering efforts in energy transition.

The agreement is structured to align financial incentives with the achievement of specific performance targets, fostering a results-oriented collaboration between Wärtsilä and Âmbar Energia. This initiative ensures high operational efficiency and predictable long-term costs, with engine uptime maximised through proactive maintenance and spare parts management.

Fábio Bindermann, Operations Director at Âmbar Energia, stated, “This agreement with Wärtsilä aims to create value for our business through increased operational efficiency, cost savings, and regulatory compliance.” Wärtsilä will utilise advanced digital tools and predictive maintenance to optimise the asset lifecycle.

Gaston Giani, Energy Business Director at Wärtsilä Energy, commented, “This outcome-based agreement with Âmbar Energia ensures that we will achieve shared goals together, taking us closer to our decarbonisation targets.”

Âmbar Energia is a significant player in Brazil’s energy sector, contributing to the diversification of the country’s energy matrix. It ranks as the fourth largest natural gas power generator in Brazil, with a diverse portfolio that includes hydroelectric, solar, biomass, coal, and biogas units. This collaboration with Wärtsilä is poised to advance both companies’ strategic objectives in the evolving energy landscape.
