Vetus reveals electric BOWA0401 thruster for smaller boats

A smaller version of the electric Bow Pro thruster – called the BOWA0401 – has been revealed by Vetus, designed for 140mm tunnels. The clean propulsion system is suitable for vessels up to 9m long and benefits from a brushless induction motor to enable longer runtimes and reduced maintenance.

Technology within the BOWA0401 improves vessel maneuverability within tight areas, as the thruster can be activated for longer periods to assist a boat’s turn rate. With a 40kgf output and the company’s MCV intelligent motor controller, the propulsion system is claimed to deliver high efficiency. Furthermore, the motor controller is responsible for regulating the brushless induction motor, ensuring quiet and efficient operation.

The Bow Pro thrusters can run for 10 minutes at full power, or longer at lower RPM. These times are only limited by the size of the battery pack. Vetus’s BOWA0401 is available in three 140mm GRP tunnel lengths: 750mm, 1,000mm and 1,500mm.

“Our Vetus smaller boat thrusters can transform the maneuverability of a vessel, and simple installation allows them to be fitted and the boat back in the water in no time,” said Thijs Boegheim, director of sales EMEA at Vetus. “They are very easy to use, and we are confident the owner will be amazed how the boat will be immediately more responsive when thruster power is needed. Our partnerships with Yamaha and Mercury are taking maneuverability to the next level.

“The addition of a Vetus Bow Pro thruster to a Yamaha Helm Master EX or Mercury JPO equipped boat dramatically improves the slow speed authority and ease of berthing, increasing safety and vessel usability. There is nothing quite like the confidence that this level of integrated control gives you during what were previously the most stressful aspects of boat handling. We like to make life easier and safer for our customers, and these thrusters certainly achieve our goals.”
