Vertiv and Caterpillar have embarked on a strategic collaboration to deliver advanced energy optimisation solutions for data centres. The initiative merges Vertiv’s power distribution and cooling portfolio with Caterpillar’s and Solar Turbines’ expertise in power generation and Combined Cooling, Heat and Power (CCHP), aiming to simplify deployment, reduce time-to-power, and enhance performance.
This collaboration targets the increasing demand for on-site energy solutions, providing reliable power and cooling. The companies offer a fully integrated solution with validated interfaces, allowing customers to expedite design, installation, and deployment. Caterpillar and Solar Turbines will provide power generation solutions, such as natural gas turbines and reciprocating engines, while Vertiv will offer a comprehensive portfolio of power and cooling solutions, packaged as modular, pre-designed blocks.
The initiative accelerates time-to-power by using modular reference architectures and lowers Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by optimising the system end-to-end. The offering is supported by Vertiv and Caterpillar’s global service and support networks. Gio Albertazzi, CEO of Vertiv, stated, “This collaboration aligns with our grid-to-chip framework, offering resilient, on-site power generation solutions optimal for those looking to reduce or eliminate grid dependence.”
Jason Kaiser, group president of Caterpillar Power & Energy, remarked, “Our collaboration with Vertiv will enable us to deliver integrated, on-site energy solutions that lower PUE and meet customers’ evolving needs.” As AI-driven workloads escalate, robust and scalable power infrastructure becomes crucial.
The Vertiv and Caterpillar Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a pivotal step in refining this ecosystem, enabling customers to overcome energy constraints and deploy optimised AI centres. This initiative reflects a customer-first approach to solution design and implementation, addressing the growing need for reliable on-site energy solutions.
