UECC expands LNG operations in the Mediterranean

LNG-powered dual-fuel vessel Auto Energy, operated by United European Car Carriers (UECC), has received its first LNG bunkering from Repsol. The bunkering was carried out in the Port of Sagunto in Spain, which was also the port’s first bunkering operation.

The delivery was supplied by energy company Repsol – supported by UECC, ESK and local authorities – as UECC continues to expand its international LNG operations to enhance sustainability within its fleet.

“We are thrilled to have successfully bunkered LNG for the first time in the Mediterranean, thanks to the excellent collaboration with Repsol and the support of ESK and Sagunto Port Authority,” said Daniel Gent, energy and sustainability manager for UECC. “This milestone showcases our commitment to extending the reach of our sustainable operations, reducing emissions and promoting a greener future for the maritime industry.”

“Repsol is delighted to have partnered with UECC to facilitate their first LNG bunkering operation in the Mediterranean,” said Eugenia Bertrand, head of green gases and LNG new uses, Repsol. “This collaboration aligns with our ambition to progress in the energy transition and contribute to the decarbonization of the maritime sector. We look forward to further strengthening our partnership with UECC and supporting their future endeavors in promoting sustainable and efficient maritime transportation.”

By conducting LNG bunkering in the Mediterranean, UECC will be able to provide more sustainable transportation across an increased number of European routes.
