Three reasons to choose Quick Connectors

Though they may seem like a small, simple component, connectors are critical for product quality, reliability and safety. In engine manufacturing and heating, ventilation and air conditioning assembly, connectors must cope with the changing temperatures of the environment, as well as be corrosion resistant and lightweight. Here Justin Lawrence, applications engineer at TFC, summarises some key benefits of Quick Connectors.

ARaymond Quick Connectors (QCs) are found across many automotive and heavy vehicle connection systems, including fuel lines, cooling circuits, selective catalytic reduction urea lines, battery cooling, air conditioning, power steering and brake fluid circuits. Lift your car bonnet, and I bet you’ll find one! But what makes them such a compelling option for engine and HVAC manufacturers?

Versatility

Quick Connectors are available for manufacturers of all vehicle types in a broad range of angles, geometries and diameters (up to 69 mm). Whatever geometry, O-ring material, locking mechanism, assembly check option, end piece type, diameter or function you need, there is a Quick Connector for you. The design is modular, so additional assembly proofing devices and integrated functions like shut-off valves or calibrated valves, can be easily incorporated.

As well as being designed to meet different spaces within an assembly, QCs are also ergonomic for the operator. There is a musculoskeletal risk for workers who make many connections during a day, particularly if this involves large diameter connectors. However, the new Low Push VDA Quick Connectors offer an improved design that requires 45 per cent less insertion force. The product was inspired by the trend towards electric vehicles, which require an increasing number of connectors, and will improve both working conditions on the assembly line and vehicle safety.

Speed

Manufacturers are under increasing pressure to build assemblies as efficiently as possible, while reducing costs. One of the most compelling benefits of QCs is that they reduce assembly cycle times significantly –– connection is straightforward and quick, the operator just pushes the Quick Connector into place and the component locks itself. Unlike alternatives like jubilee clips or worm clamps, no tooling is needed. Additionally, no tools are required to disconnect in aftermarket applications.

Safety factor

Quick Connectors offer an audio, tactile or visual confirmation of connection, making it easy for the operator to know if the line is secure. This means they are ideal for critical environments like fuel lines or electrified engine battery packs, as well as in blind assembly applications where access is difficult. They are leak tested, meet SAE J2044 and VDA specifications and help to meet environmental or emissions requirements.

By partnering with TFC for your Quick Connectors, there is an additional safety factor — you benefit from the support of our expert team. Our technical team can assist you when choosing a connector to ensure it is suitable for the application and recommend alternatives if needed.
