Tesla’s Powerwall integrated into Octopus Energy’s Kraken

Octopus Energy and Tesla have announced integration of their Kraken and Powerwall technologies to offer customers access to grid-focused tariffs.
According to Octopus Energy, the integration will allow Powerwall customers to unlock low-cost, green energy through the Kraken platform.
The integration allows Powerwall customers to access Octopus’ range of smart tariffs, including ‘Intelligent Octopus Flux’, which they state maximises customers’ earnings by responding flexibly to prices throughout the day.
Specifically, Powerwall customers would charge their batteries when prices are low and sell when they are high to support the grid during peak periods.
According to Octopus Energy in a release, this would enable savings of £250 ($317) a year compared to a standard import and export tariff.

In addition to the integration, Octopus Energy is now certified to instal the Tesla Powerwall in Spain and the UK. The solar-powered home batteries will be installed by Octopus’ services arm.
The Powerwall installations will be supported by dedicated customer support teams in both countries.
Commenting in a release was Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief product and marketing officer at Octopus Energy: “Two energy tech giants are coming together to get the most out of clean tech in people’s homes. Now that Powerwall is integrated into Kraken, it will pass on further savings for customers while helping to balance the grid.”
Added Colby Hastings, director of Residential Energy at Tesla: “This integration of Powerwall with Octopus Energy will increase value for homeowners while maintaining an excellent product experience. We are excited to collaborate with Octopus as we work towards powering the grid of the future.”
Kraken is contracted to manage over 54 million customer accounts globally through licence agreements with energy giants like E.ON, Origin Energy and EDF.
The platform is currently used to flexibly manage over 1GW of shiftable power through connected devices. The benefits of the Tesla Powerwall partnership are now also available to Kraken licensees.
