Anticipating the upcoming synchronisation with Europe’s continental grid by February 2025, Lithuanian TSO Litgrid welcomes TenneT COO Tim Meyerjürgens and Pierre-Henri D’haene, Belgian TSO Elia Group’s head of strategy, transformation and sustainability to their board.
Meyerjürgens and D’haene join Litgrid as independent board members after the TSO held a shareholders’ meeting, appointing a new board of directors for a four-year term.
Responsible for the areas of technology and digitisation solutions and business development management, Meyerjürgens and D’haene join three members who were already serving on the board.
These include Mindaugas Keizeris, head of the EPSO-G group of energy transmission and exchange companies, Tomas Varneckas, head of infrastructure and project management of the EPSO-G group, and Gediminas Karalius, head of the Ministry of Energy Energy security group advisor.

Litgrid completes ‘most important’ project for grid synchronisation with continental Europe
“Transmission networks are the backbone of energy change. Rapid and efficient infrastructure development is of particular importance for the transformation of the European economy, so we need to work closely together across Europe to overcome the challenges together,” said Meyerjürgens in a statement.
“Litgrid is at the centre of this transformation. As the energy system transitions to renewables and synchronisation with continental Europe is imminent, significant work lies ahead and I will be very pleased to be able to contribute my experience in transmission networks in Germany and the Netherlands.”
Added D’haene: “I join the Litgrid board as Europe accelerates its electrification transition to meet climate goals while supporting industrial growth. Cross-cultural experience in the United States of America and Europe, as well as the position of head of digitisation in the energy sector and head of strategy implementation and transformation at Elia, provide the basis for a significant contribution to Litgrid’s operations.
“I am ready to help strengthen infrastructure development, system resilience and promote digitisation. I am happy to have the opportunity to cooperate with the outstanding members of the Litgrid board and together with all the Litgrid employees to create the future of Lithuanian electricity.”
Tennet operates the electricity transmission network in the Netherlands and is one of the four operators of the German electricity transmission system.
Elia Group is the holding company that owns Elia Transmission Belgium, the Belgian electricity transmission network operator, Eurogrid International, whose activities include 50Hertz, one of the four German electricity transmission system operators, and Elia Grid International, the group’s international consulting company.
Lithuania is one of the Baltic TSOs that have agreed to disconnect from the Russian-controlled electricity system and synchronise with Europe’s continental grid.
Under an agreement signed in late 2023, these TSOs will jointly withdraw from a contract, whereby they were synchronised with the Russian and Belarus operator-controlled energy system (BRELL).
