Stühmer chocolate travels to space

Stühmer is on course to reach another milestone as part of the Hunor Program when the Hungarian research astronaut Tibor Kapu goes into space with a special traveller: Stühmer chocolate, representing the country in space as a true Hungarian chocolate.

Tibor Kapu will be supported by his partner, Gyula Cserényi, who is participating in the program as a reserve research astronaut.

The story began in April 2024 with a bold idea that wasn’t even thought feasible at the time. The breakthrough came through an exchange of messages with research astronaut Tibor Kapu, who, as an enthusiastic Stühmer consumer, was open to cooperation. After long negotiations, Stühmer finally joined the Hungarian space mission as an official sponsor.

Stühmer said it is proud to contribute to this historic moment as an official sponsor of the Hunor Program and to have its chocolate reach space carried by a Hungarian research astronaut.

The preparation of the chocolate for space travel took months, as the extreme conditions of space required special developments. The aim was to maintain the usual excellent quality of Stühmer chocolate, while ensuring that it met the strict requirements of space travel.

After a lightning-fast research process, a chocolate that meets the challenges of the extreme space environment was created, partly through in-house development. The basis was Stühmer’s traditional Corfu bar, which, thanks to its composition and consistency, can withstand pressure differences, weightlessness and temperature fluctuations. This required the creation of an extremely resistant, unique coating mass, which ultimately became Stühmer’s own development.

Stühmer said the mission is much more than a space journey – it is the beginning of a new era, which the brand sees as a triumph of Hungarian creativity, innovation and tradition.
