Strategic Marine announces order for six crew transfer vessels

Singapore-based shipbuilder Strategic Marine has announced an order for six Strat Cat 27 (SC27) crew transfer vessels for Sam Pan Marine, also based in Singapore, which has the option to expand the order for a further six vessels.

Built in conjunction with design partner BMT, the SC27 has been designed and developed to be environmentally and operationally flexible. The crew transfer vessel has the option to be fitted with a hybrid propulsion system to reduce the boat’s carbon footprint and cut noise and vibration levels. This will reduce the number of hours that the main engines run, resulting in less maintenance and lower emission levels. Depending on the selected propulsion system, the vessel can achieve speeds of up to 30kts.

The recently launched SC27 CTV is intended for use within the offshore windfarm and renewables market and builds on the design of the company’s previous Strat Cat 26 (SC26) vessel.

“The SC27 has an improved super-efficient hull design that maximizes the waterline length, delivering a 2-2.5% increase in efficiency compared to the SC26, across a large range of loading conditions thereby reducing emissions and fuel consumption,” said Greg Daniel, technical manager, Strategic Marine Group.

“Furthermore, reflecting today’s health and environmental considerations, the SC27 has been designed to reduce the risk of infectious disease and can meet relevant Classification Society biosafety and environmentally friendly notations, including the Green Passport for ship recycling.”

Strategic Marine’s CEO, Chan Eng Yew, commented, “We are justifiably proud of our SC27, and this order for six vessels and another six to follow is a clear endorsement of the vessel’s enhanced capabilities, its reduced environmental footprint and market-leading hybrid drive options.”
