Smart meter data to power new AI platform in ‘Middle East first’
Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA – the digital arm of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority – has partnered with Bidgely to use smart meter data and AI to enable utilities and consumers to make data-driven energy decisions.
Touted as a first for the Middle East, the partnership will see DEWA’s subsidiary join hands with Bidgely, an AI-powered Software as a Service (SaaS) company to enable electricity load disaggregation – breaking down energy consumption data garnered from smart meters into the appliance/category level – with the aim of enhancing Moro’s energy efficiency and grid management.
From a consumer perspective, Moro Hub’s integration with Bidgely will deliver more detailed insights to help customers better understand the impact of individual energy use on electricity bills.

The partners hope the platform will provide a route to congestion management in Moro Hub’s areas as new loads, from consumption heavy tech such as electric vehicles, become more prevalent.
The platform, and its combination with Moro’s smart meter data, is expected to enable Moro Hub access to data insights on consumption behaviour, informing their planning for demand changes across their network.
In announcing the partnership, Gautam Aggarwal, chief revenue officer for Bidgely, commented on the importance of smart meter data for utilities undergoing a digital transformation: “They (utilities) want to make sure the vision of their management and leaders is coming to life.
“They have all these smart metering programmes, which are coming into play and the biggest value, the single source of truth, is customer data…The mapping of the consumer to a distribution transformer, to a feeder, to a substation has never been done before in the Middle East.”
According to Bidgely, their data analytics also provides home energy reports, appliance-level consumption insights and custom energy saving tips.
Added Aggarwal: “We applaud Moro Hub for being innovation pioneers and for their dedication to delivering unmatched customer experiences through advanced technology. Using smart meters already in place, Bidgely’s solution helps to save energy and money while simultaneously further achieving the country’s sustainability goals – preparing for a grid of the future.”
The agreement was signed between Mr. Mohammad Bin Sulaiman, chief executive officer of Moro Hub and Mr. Abhay Gupta, chief executive officer and co-founder of Bidgely.
