Sigma Alimentos has announced a plan to permanently recover its production capacity in Spain after irreparable damages to the Torrente facility caused by heavy rains during the fourth quarter of 2024.

Sigma’s plans accelerate capacity recovery and reinforce competitiveness in the region. This includes projects for the construction of a new packaged meats plant in Valencia and for a capacity expansion in Castilla y Leon at its “La Bureba” facility.

The estimated investment totals €134 million for the new facility in Valencia plus €23 million for La Bureba. Funding for the projects would be largely supported by insurance reimbursements and expected government incentives, the company said.

The recovered capacity is expected to be fully operational in 2027.

The production recovery plan will enhance efficiency and operational flexibility, reinforcing other efforts focused on improving profits in Europe.

Sigma is a leading multinational food company operating in 17 countries grouped in four regions: Mexico, Europe, U.S., and Latin America. With 64 plants and 189 distribution centres, the company produces, commercialises, and distributes quality branded foods, including packaged meats, cheese, yogurts, and other refrigerated and frozen foods.

Sigma’s diversified portfolio includes more than 100 brands in different categories and market segments such as: FUD, Campofrio, Bar-S, San Rafael, Aoste, La Villita, Fiorucci, Chimex, Navidul, Justin Bridou y Sosua, among others.
