SGS and Yili alliance enhances dairy quality standards

SGS and Yili forge a pioneering global partnership. The agreement aims to enhance quality across the dairy production chain, focusing on safety, sustainability, and innovation. By integrating digital systems and zero-carbon initiatives, the collaboration seeks to elevate the Chinese dairy industry’s global standing.

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection, and certification company, has entered into a comprehensive global cooperation agreement with Yili Group, one of the top five dairy enterprises globally. This strategic partnership is designed to significantly improve quality across the entire dairy production chain, aiming to promote full-chain mutual trust and global standardisation in key areas such as safety, sustainability, and innovation.

The core objective is to elevate the quality and reliability of the Chinese dairy industry on the international stage. The agreement is set to deliver integrated solutions that bolster product quality and operational efficiency, encompassing every stage from production to consumption. Key areas of collaboration include safety and nutrition, laboratory empowerment, digital integration, and joint zero-carbon initiatives.

In the safety and nutrition domain, the partnership will offer comprehensive services, including testing, inspection, certification, training, and consultancy, to ensure the highest standards of product quality and nutritional integrity. Laboratory empowerment will see SGS providing specialised training and consultancy to enhance Yili’s internal laboratory capabilities, ensuring precision and reliability in quality control testing.

Digital integration will involve linking SGS and Yili systems to facilitate seamless testing and data exchange. This digital backbone will provide real-time data and transparency, enhancing decision-making across the value chain. The collaboration also addresses environmental performance, with SGS offering carbon reduction services, including audits and certification, to accelerate Yili’s sustainability and low-carbon initiatives.

Prior to the agreement signing, SGS representatives toured Yili’s advanced facilities, including the National Dairy Technology Innovation Center and the Chilechuan Ecological Smart Pasture. This visit provided firsthand insight into Yili’s integration of digitalisation and intelligent systems across its operations.

Liu Dapeng, vice president of Yili Group, affirmed the commitment to excellence, stating: “The belief that ‘Yili means quality’ is deeply embedded in our corporate culture…today’s agreement is a promise to global consumers — Yili and SGS will jointly demonstrate the quality and reliability of China’s dairy industry to the world.”

Charles Ly Wa Hoi, head of connectivity & products and health & nutrition at SGS, echoed this sentiment, emphasising SGS’s pivotal role in advancing Yili’s “comprehensive value leadership” strategy and building a more sustainable future for healthy food.
