Seahead receives Approval in Principle for methanol bunkering vessel design

The China Classification Society’s (CCS) Wuhan Rules and Research Institute has issued an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate to Zhejiang Seahead Ship Design and Research Institute for a methanol bunkering vessel design.

The new methanol bunkering ship – developed entirely by Seahead – has a 7,500 metric ton fuel oil and methanol bunkering capacity, enabling it to carry out methanol transfer operations to the largest methanol-powered vessels. The classification society’s AiP award recognizes that Seahead’s design fully considers the risks of methanol bunkering.

The CCS Wuhan Rules and Research Institute established a working group for methanol technology applications to carry out research and an assessment on the vessel’s overall design, ship arrangement, bunkering system, cargo containment system and safety systems. The society also provided full technical services within the areas of ship safety and system design and optimization.
