Following the delivery of a hybrid ferry capable of fully electric operation, and a with contract for three additional ferries ongoing, Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel (SFK) has ordered an additional electric ferry from Holland Shipyards Group.

The design of the additional ferry, to be named ‘Wellingdorf’, follows that of the previously delivered vessel ‘Düsternbrook’. It will measure 24.7m in length and be capable of emission-free operation, powered by a 1MWh battery system. In addition to the battery pack the vessel has 20 solar panels on the roof to contribute toward operation of the onboard electrical system. The additional ferry is expected to enter service in mid-2022.
