Schaeffler announces additions to its machine tools portfolio #Engineering #MachineTools #Portfolio

  • Greatly expanded range of components for precise cutting processes and positioning tasks
  • Data-based additional service ensures increased transparency in the mounting of spindle bearings
  • Incremental angular measuring system now available for axial angular contact ball bearings

Schaeffler has announced new products across its entire portfolio of machine tools, that have been designed with speed, accuracy and cost savings in mind.

Precise Cutting Processes

RT1, RT2 and PSC-series precision gear unit for machining non-ferrous metals, plastics and wood.  The RT1 and RT2 series are clearance-free precision strain wave gears, while the PSC series comprises precision planetary gear units which reduces the torsional backlash to 0.1 angular minutes and keeps it constant for up to 20,000 operating hours by means of an adjustment mechanism.

With the very wide torque range of the three gear unit series and matching rolling bearings, motors and torque sensors, Schaeffler can offer a particularly broad spectrum of components for high precision drives and positions – from delicate machines for dental technology, to large portal milling machines.

Bearing Data Service

Also new to the portfolio is Schaeffler’s new Bearing Data Service, which simplifies the process of documenting bearing and spindle data – in particular the measurement records from production, which increases transparency in the mounting of spindle bearings.

A data matrix code (DMC) is affixed to the bearing which contains its individual serial number, the date of manufacture, diameter tolerances, width deviation, contact angle, and deviation from the nominal projection.  This can be transmitted online at any time, enabling 100% traceability as well as digitalisation of the incoming goods process, enabling spindle manufacturers to monitor their own stock levels.  It also simplifies the pairing of bearings, shafts and housing and accelerates the spindle mounting process.

Angular Measuring System

Finally, Schaeffler’s ZKLDF-series of axial angular contact ball bearings has been added to the portfolio.  Suitable for very high speeds, they have a low breakaway torque and low friction levels making them perfect for machining non-ferrous metals, plastics and wood.  Since ZKLDF bearings in rotary axes are almost always combined with direct drives, the integration of an angular measuring system was a logical step for Schaeffler.

An inductive AMOSIN angular measuring system is also used in ZKLDFMI bearings which enables the greatest possible measurement accuracy by positioning the measuring system in the bearing plane.  The speed of the ZKLDF bearing can be maximised thanks to the high output frequency of the incremental measuring head.  The central passage is not influenced by the measuring system, which ensures design freedom for the media feed-throughs.
