Schaeffler has forged a strategic partnership with UK-based technology company Humanoid to drive advancements in humanoid robotics. This collaboration focuses on the development and supply of key components, particularly innovative actuators for wheeled and bipedal robots, enhancing the robotics sector’s capabilities.
Klaus Rosenfeld, CEO of Schaeffler AG, stated, “As a Motion Technology Company, we aim to play a pivotal role in the expanding humanoid robotics market. Our decades-long manufacturing excellence and industrialisation expertise position us well to drive forward joint innovations with Humanoid, an attractive partner in Europe.”
Artem Sokolov, CEO and founder of Humanoid, remarked, “Humanoid robotics has long been confined to labs and demonstrations. However, large-scale application is the true test of this technology. Partnering with Schaeffler allows us to validate humanoids under real-world conditions, paving the way for commercial use in the coming years.”
Schaeffler’s expertise in actuators, including strain wave gear actuators, is central to this partnership. These components are essential for precise movements in robot joints, offering zero backlash, low friction, and high precision — ideal for dynamic use in humanoid robots. The strain wave gear actuators are primarily utilised in the upper body and arms of humanoid robots, featuring a design optimised for mass production.
Andreas Schick, Chief Operating Officer of Schaeffler AG, highlighted, “Humanoid robots epitomise movement and precision. Our manufacturing prowess and strong vertical integration enable us to deliver innovative, high-quality products. This collaboration allows us to realise customised solutions, elevating modern humanoid robots to new heights.”
