Sales of Spanish European chorizo in the UK hit a record high

Spain’s European chorizo sales have reached a record high as the UK market’s demand for premium cured meats continues to rise.

According to the Spanish Chorizo Consortium, cured sausage imports into the UK from Spain reached an all-time high value of €104 million in 2024, up 2.4 per cent on the previous year. Of this, the ‘sarta’, or horseshoe-shaped chorizo, is the most popular type of chorizo, accounting for 89 per cent of total imports.

After France, the UK is now the second-largest destination market for cured sausage exports, with a total value of €425 million in 2024, an 8.3 per cent increase on the previous year.

To mark the growth in sales, the Spanish Chorizo Consortium has launched a co-funded campaign by the European Union known as “EUChorizo”. This initiative, led by Atlas Marketing Studio as the Implementing Body, was officially kicked off at the launch event held on April 29, 2025, at Camino Monument. The event included a presentation on chorizo, a masterclass showcasing the different types and uses, and a guided chorizo tasting session.

Campaign project manager, Ariadna Cánoves said: “The aim of this campaign is to deliver a unified message that European Chorizo from Spain stands for quality, traceability, and versatility, fully complying with the highest European production standards.”
