RTE International has signed a Franco-Singaporean partnership agreement to address the challenges of the energy transition in Southeast Asia, including the development of smart, resilient and low-carbon networks.
The partnership was established under a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by RTE International, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Université Grenoble Alpes ( UGA ), EDF Lab Asia Pacific and Think Smartgrids.
According to RTE International, the French TSO’s consulting and engineering company, the MoU brings together the scientific excellence of UGA and NTU, two leading institutions in the field of energy systems, and the technical expertise of EDF, Think Smartgrids, and RTE International.
The MoU establishes a long-term collaboration framework structured around five priorities:
- The development of smart, resilient and low-carbon networks, including digitalisation, AI and flexibility technologies.
- Strengthening regional interconnection, particularly via HVDC, HVAC technologies and submarine cabling.
- Research and experimentation on energy storage and flexibility.
- Developing strategic roadmaps for smart grids, tailored to the energy context of Southeast Asia.
- Training, knowledge transfer and shared innovation, through the exchange of researchers and the establishment of demonstrators.

RTE International says they have been leading infrastructure modernisation and energy transition support projects in Asia for 10 years, including in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.
In this context, RTE International provides its expertise in several key areas:
- Modelling and planning of interconnected electrical networks.
- System architecture consulting for the integration of renewable energies and flexibility management.
- Support for the deployment of high-voltage electricity transmission technologies , in particular HVDC solutions and power electronics.
Commenting in a release was Veronika Milewski, CEO of RTE International: “We are proud to bring our expertise in engineering and system planning to this Franco-Singaporean partnership.
“The RTE Group leverages decades of experience in design, operation, interconnection strategies and HVDC technologies to support regional integration and decarbonization. These skills are directly linked to Southeast Asia’s ambitions for grid security, flexibility and sustainability. Through this collaboration, we will share our operational know-how and contribute to building the resilient electricity grids of tomorrow.”
The partnership was signed on the occasion of the state visit of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, to Singapore, marking the latest international move from RTE International, which earlier this year, in March, opened a subsidiary in Australia.
