Rohde & Schwarz showcases its innovative solutions for the engineering community at EDS 2024
The Engineering Design Show takes place 9-10 October 2024 at the Coventry Building Society Arena and provides engineers with the latest solutions to meet challenges experienced in electronic and embedded design.
On Stand G2, Rohde & Schwarz will display its wide range of innovative solutions including next-generation oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, vector signal generators and vector network analysers. The stand will feature three distinct benches that will focus on different applications with their respective solutions: power integrity, RF testing and EMC pre-compliance, and signal integrity.
Power integrity
The company’s first eight-channel oscilloscope, the MXO 5, is designed to empower engineers to tackle even the most demanding challenges, and the latest in the series, the MXO 5C, is the world’s most compact oscilloscope with up to 2 GHz bandwidth. A demonstration will be setup with a R&S Scope Rider RTH handheld oscilloscope carrying out general probing onto a demo board with the MXO 5 showing a power setup where multiple functionalities will be displayed, including EMI, general switching behaviours and power rail probing.
Capable of 4.5m acquisitions per second and 18m waveforms per second across multiple channels, the MXO 5 enables engineers to capture intricate signal details and infrequent events with exceptional precision. Key features include digital triggering on all eight channels for accurate isolation of small signal anomalies, and groundbreaking capability of 45,000 FFTs per second provides engineers with unparalleled spectrum signal viewing, particularly for EMI and harmonic testing.
By capturing up to 99% of real-time signal activity with the fastest acquisition capture rate in the world, the MXO 5 speeds up signal analysis while detecting rare and random events. These features allow engineers to debug designs more efficiently across multiple applications – for example, power conversion and automotive analysis – simplifying significantly the processes of power and signal integrity measurement as well as logic and bus protocol debugging.
The first oscilloscope from Rohde & Schwarz without an integrated display, the MXO 5C series delivers the same performance as the MXO 5 but at 8.9cm (3.5”) it is only 25% as high. This makes the oscilloscope ideal for rack mount and automated test system applications where there are often space limitations. The compact form factor is also useful in applications with high channel density where users need a large number of channels in a small volume.
The R&S Scope Rider RTH oscilloscope offers users the superior performance of a laboratory oscilloscope in a handheld package. Features and capabilities include 60 MHz to 500 MHz at up to 5 Gsample/s, high speed acquisition system with history mode, 10 bit A/D converter, sensitivity of 2 mV/div to 100 V/div, up to 200 V offset compensation range, 37 automatic measurement functions and deep zoom with 500 ksample acquisition memory.
RF testing and EMC pre-compliance
This bench will feature the R&S SMCV100B vector signal generator which is ideal for automotive, broadcast, navigation and wireless applications. The first commercial multi-standard platform and fully configurable with keycode options, the R&S SMCV100B covers the 5G NR extended FR1 frequency range up to 7.125 GHz, making it particularly suitable for mobile communications applications. In the automotive industry, it can be used for end-of-line testing of car radios or GNSS navigation equipment.
Also showcased on the bench will be R&S FPL1000 and R&S FPC spectrum analysers. The higher-performance R&S FPL1000 can be used for spectrum analysis as well as highly accurate power measurements for power sensors and analysis of analog and digitally modulated signals. Key features include a 5 kHz to 26.5 GHz frequency range, typical SSB phase noise of 108 dBc (1 Hz) at 10 kHz, and a displayed average noise level (DANL) with preamplifier of around –163 dBm from 10 MHz to 2 GHz. Offering unrivalled entry-class performance, the R&S FPC is designed to meet the same quality standards as high-end instruments. Features include a 10.1” WXGA (1366 x 768 pixel) display with the largest and highest resolution in class, a tracking generator and independent CW signal generator, and a built-in voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) bridge.
Visitors will be able to see demonstrations of displaying signal generation from the R&S SMCV100B which will then be demodulated by the R&S FPL1000, with the R&S FPC showing general EMI measurements with limit lines.
Signal integrity solutions
A high-speed eye diagram will be shown on a R&S RTP oscilloscope and a R&S ZNL vector network analyser will display various filter measurements. With its enhanced user interface and 13.3” full HD touchscreen, the oscilloscope offers users superior flexibility in a compact format with a modern look. Combining high-class signal integrity measurements with the fastest possible acquisition for real-time analysis, the R&S RTP enables users to take advantage of the crisp 16:9 screen format, which displays waveforms while allowing settings to be altered and changed quickly. The intuitive front panel increases productivity with fast, direct access to primary instrument settings. All of this is achieved without compromising the overall instrument footprint to free up desk space.
The R&S ZNL vector network analyser supports frequencies from 5 kHz to 20 GHz and can be expanded to include a fully integrated spectrum analyser and to support RF power meters (spectrum analysis also supports a CW signal generator option). The R&S ZNL enables research labs, service centers, universities and production facilities to use a single, compact instrument that offers even higher measurement speeds and better RF performance than dedicated instruments in comparable classes.
