Rohde & Schwarz opens new office to boost Japanese automotive innovation. This strategic move enhances facilities for service, repair, and engineering support, providing increased space for customer events. The Osaki location replaces the Shinjuku office, aiming to deliver a competitive edge to the Japanese automotive sector.


Rohde & Schwarz has inaugurated a new office in Osaki, Japan, designed to enhance innovation within the Japanese automotive industry. The facility replaces the previous Shinjuku location, offering improved infrastructure for service, repair, calibration, and engineering support of test equipment. Additionally, it provides expanded space for hosting customer events.

The electromagnetic emissions of vehicles, especially electric vehicles (EVs), vary significantly with their operational states. Accurate evaluation of an EV’s electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requires testing under dynamic driving conditions. Rohde & Schwarz’s test system, integrating EMC receivers and automation software with AIP’s EMC Chassis Dynamometer, allows vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to assess EMC performance under realistic conditions. AIP has further enhanced this system with R&S radar target simulators, enabling vehicle-in-the-loop testing of radars. The Osaki office includes a dedicated calibration area for EMC equipment, strategically positioned near AIP’s new office for swift service and support.

Rohde & Schwarz is also expanding its collaboration with Granite River Labs (GRL) and Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) to advance in-vehicle network compliance testing in Japan. GRL, known for compliance testing services for standards such as multigigabit Ethernet and the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA), has a history of using Rohde & Schwarz equipment. Concurrently, ADI is working with Rohde & Schwarz globally on the OpenGMSL standard via the OpenGMSL Association. The expanded facilities in Japan, equipped with cutting-edge oscilloscopes and vector network analysers, support fast, reliable standards-compliant testing tailored for the Japanese market.

In collaboration with IPG Automotive, Rohde & Schwarz is enhancing autonomous driving radar testing capabilities. The partnership integrates IPG Automotive’s CarMaker simulation software with Rohde & Schwarz’s AREG800A radar target simulator, the QAT100 antenna array, and the RadEsT target simulator.

This setup allows vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to simulate Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving scenarios, including Euro NCAP tests, in a controlled and efficient environment. The Osaki office facilitates the development of Japanese-specific traffic scenario simulations.

The automotive sector is increasingly exploring non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) to ensure seamless connectivity for vehicles. MediaTek’s latest NR-NTN device capabilities have been showcased using the Rohde & Schwarz CMX500 radiocommunication tester.

This versatile solution supports various NTN technologies, offering multiband and multi-orbit capabilities, and includes a dedicated workspace for NTN network visualisation. The collaboration between MediaTek and Rohde & Schwarz, already spanning Europe, North America, and China, is now extending to Japan. The Osaki office enables faster support for local NTN projects and empowers Japanese customers to test and optimise the entire NTN integration chain.
