Renault’s Ampere taps Asian players to build European battery supply chain
LG Energy Solutions and Ampere signed the supply agreement at Renault’s Paris headquarters in France.
Renault Group-owned EV company Ampere has announced an ambitious battery plan to collaborate with suppliers LG Energy Solutions and CATL to set up an EV battery value chain.
LG Energy Solutions and CATL will provide the French EV company with LFP batteries that will equip several models of Renault and Alpine brands and will cover battery needs for the technology until 2030.
Specifically, under a five-year contract, LG Energy Solution will provide (Lithium Iron Phosphate) LFP batteries to Ampere from late 2025 through 2030, with a total capacity of approximately 39GWh, enough to produce around 590,000 battery electric vehicles.
Additional details for the partnership with CATL have not been released.
The batteries will be manufactured in LG Energy Solution’s Poland facility and will power next-generation EV models.
Ampere’s teams will also lead, together with LG Energy Solutions, the development of Cell-to-Pack (CTP) technology, which they claim as a world first for pouch-type batteries. Ampere claims it improves the range of vehicles by integrating more cells, and therefore more on-board energy in a given space.

François Provost, chief procurement, partnerships and public affairs officer, Renault Group, commented: “We worked hand in hand with LG Energy Solution to set up an integrated value chain in Europe. Our long-term relationships have enabled us to build this unique solution in terms of technology and competitiveness.”
Said Philippe Brunet, SVP Powertrain and EV engineering, Ampere: “The work we’ve done with LG Energy Solution has enabled us to localise the entire value chain around LFP technology in Europe, and significantly increase its competitiveness, including with Cell-to-Pack.
“Innovation in batteries is ongoing, and we are working far upstream – in particular with our Innovation Battery Cell Laboratory to open in Lardy in 2025- to engage our partners early on with us, on the major transformations to come.”
