Power capacity boost for Hertfordshire
Work is underway to reinforce power capacity for the future connection of more electric vehicles in Hertfordshire as part of the UK’s Green Recovery programme.
UK Power Networks is installing 6.5km of new high voltage electricity cables between St Albans Road and Potters Bar to supply a new transformer. Teams will aim to minimise any local disruption while work takes place.
These new cables will meet an anticipated growth in future demand by enabling the installation of new EV infrastructure in future years and provide a secure electrical supply for the surrounding area.
UK Power Networks is delivering £66 million of ‘Green Recovery’ investment to deliver low carbon energy projects that will help achieve the Government’s Ten Point Plan towards net zero by 2050.
A total of 86 schemes are being fast-tracked by the electricity company across a range of sites including electric vehicle charging hubs at motorway service stations, fleets of electric buses, community energy schemes and heat pumps.
Adam Lakey, leading the projects for UK Power Networks, says: “These projects are about providing the infrastructure that gives businesses and the public the confidence to decarbonise their activities and we hope it will encourage more to make the switch to EVs.
“As we all strive to meet the Government’s targets for a net zero economy, it is vital that we all reduce our emissions and push towards a cleaner environment.”
