Portuguese grid operator E-REDES has announced two investments of €350,000 and €150,000 to improve distribution power quality in the municipalities of Braga and Vila Verde respectively.

The first investment of €350,000 (approximately $379,000) will go towards modifying the medium voltage overhead network to promote a more environmentally efficient network.

To this end, E-REDES has dismantled 250 metres of overhead MV line and installed a new disconnection post, which will allow for the future availability of power and the dismantling of more MV overhead lines in the parish of Nogueiró.

In the União das Freguesias de Este (São Pedro e São Mamede), 650 metres of double overhead line were also dismantled.

In the parish of Parada de Tibães, E-REDES is also building a new transformer substation with 250kVA of power, which is already in operation.

These works are being carried out in close collaboration with the municipality of Braga and are part of E-REDES’ policy of optimizing quality of service and energy efficiency, resulting from the commitment made to the municipality.

Transformer substations for Vila Verde

The second investment of €150,000 (approximately $163,000) will strengthen the quality of service in the municipality of Vila Verde.

Through the investment, E-REDES has installed three new transformer substations in the parishes of Freiriz, Cabanelas and Turiz.

The work will reinforce the quality of service in the area, provide the network with greater capacity and resilience and guarantee the availability of power to respond to new requests for electricity in the areas in question.

The infrastructures were inaugurated on January 29 in the presence of Júlia Fernandes, Mayor of Vila Verde, Patricio Araujo, Councillor of Vila Verde City Council, Francisco Campilho, Miguel Pinto and Joaquim Cerqueira, representatives of E-REDES. Image courtesy E-REDES.

Specifically, the infrastructure, which is already in operation, has a combined power of 360kVA and Medium Voltage (MV) branches of 500 metres in length.

Additionally, the low voltage (LV) network in the area was reinforced over an approximate length of 1300 metres, which involved the installation/replacement of 18 LV supports and resulted in better network management, stated E-REDES in a release.

According to the utility, the work was carried out in close collaboration with the municipality of Vila Verde, forming part of E-REDES’ policy of optimising quality of service and energy efficiency, resulting from the company’s commitment to the municipality.
