PepsiCo has unveiled a £13m investment in its Coventry factory that is known as ‘the home of Doritos’ and is now Europe’s largest tortilla chip production facility.

The site, which has been producing Doritos since the brand’s UK introduction three decades ago, will benefit from an upgrade involving the replacement of an existing manufacturing line with state-of-the-art equipment designed to enhance efficiency and slash greenhouse gas emissions by more than 700 tonnes annually.

The new line will maintain production of the full Doritos range available in the UK, including Doritos Dippers the first Doritos product to be classified as non-HFSS (non-high in fat, salt, and sugar).

The investment reflects Doritos’ increasing popularity in the UK market, where nearly one-third of households purchase the brand, contributing to sales of £237m and a growth exceeding 20% over the past two years.

Layla Whiting, manufacturing director at PepsiCo, said: “We’ve been perfecting the tortilla chip here in Coventry for the past three decades, and I’m proud of our role in helping to build a loyal Doritos fanbase and make the brand a household name in the UK. This investment marks our commitment to the teams who have played such a key role in Doritos’ success over the years, and to our home in Coventry as we celebrate our 30th birthday.”
