Parker’s STEM ambassadors inspire engineers of tomorrow
Parker Hannifin’s Bioscience Filtration experts helped to inspire the engineers of tomorrow at a major UK STEM event in July.
A team from Parker Bioscience Filtration’s Birtley site in County Durham, UK exhibited at STEMFest 2023, which was held at Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, from July 4 to 6.
More than 3,000 young people aged from ten to 13-years-old attended the event, which was created to showcase the range of careers and job roles available in the STEM sector, and encourage interest in STEM subjects.
Parker’s STEM ambassadors spoke to young people from North East England’s schools about the importance and role of filtration, and the work carried out at the Birtley site.
The Parker team also ran a number of ‘hands-on’ activities at the stand, including building a filtration set and analysing organisms, to help young people gain a better understanding of filtration technology and applications.
Richard Purdy, project engineer and STEM ambassador at Parker Bioscience Filtration, said: “This was Parker’s second time at STEMFest, and once again, we greatly enjoyed sharing our knowledge, insight and passion for filtration technology with young people from North East England. We were also able to strengthen our relationships with local schools and higher education providers.
“Parker is deeply committed to STEM education and engaging with our local community: STEMFest 2023 provided the opportunity to inspire young people and show them the exciting careers they can have in science and engineering.”
More than 50 businesses were involved in STEMFest 2023, which was coordinated by the North East STEM Hub. This year’s event included Space, Environment, Technology and Manufacturing zones.
