Parker to showcase work to engineers of tomorrow

Parker Hannifin’s Bioscience Filtration experts are set to inspire and educate young people at a major STEM event next month.

A team from Parker Bioscience Filtration’s Birtley site in County Durham, UK will be exhibiting at STEMFest, which will be held at VERTU Motors Arena in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, from July 4 to 6.

Parker’s STEM ambassadors will be running fun, interactive challenges and activities so that young people can have an insight into STEM careers and filtration technology, as well as work at the Birtley site.

Richard Purdy, project engineer and STEM ambassador at Parker Bioscience Filtration, said: “We were delighted to be involved with STEMFest last year. We greatly enjoyed talking to young people and teachers about our work, and the rewarding and fascinating careers available across manufacturing and engineering. This year, we have exciting plans to deliver even more interactive activities at the event.

“Exhibiting at STEMFest forms a core part of our commitment to STEM education and the local community.

“Companies such as Parker can play a key role in inspiring young people to think about their future studies and careers. We show them how engineering breakthroughs can make our world a better place.”

More than 40 businesses will be involved in STEMFest 2023, delivering hands-on activities and showcasing the range of careers and job roles available in the STEM sector.

STEMFest’s organisers expect more than 3,000 young people to attend the three-day event. Aged between 10 and 13, the students come from schools in North East England.

The Parker team will also be showcasing solutions for food and drink production. They will be demonstrating the ‘real world’ applications of Parker’s technology.

It will be the second time that Parker Bioscience Filtration will be attending STEMFest – having first exhibited at the event in 2022 – and this year it will exhibiting in the Manufacturing Zone.

Parker Bioscience Filtration’s STEM ambassadors promote STEM subjects and careers in North East England’s schools. The company also collaborates with local universities.

STEMFest 2023 features space, manufacturing, technology and environment zones.
