OMRON launches VHV5 inline verifier for ISO-compliant barcode quality control

OMRON has introduced the VHV5 Inline Verifier, a high‑speed system designed to grade 1D, 2D and direct part mark barcodes directly on production lines, helping manufacturers ensure traceability and compliance.

OMRON has launched the VHV5 Inline Verifier, a high‑speed barcode verification system designed to assess code quality directly on the production line. The system verifies 1D, 2D and Direct Part Mark (DPM) codes in real time at speeds of up to 1,000 codes per minute.

Barcode quality plays a critical role in maintaining traceability across manufacturing and packaging environments. Codes that cannot be reliably scanned can create bottlenecks during internal handling, final assembly, distribution and point‑of‑use operations. Inline verification allows manufacturers to detect printing or marking issues at the moment a code is created so that problems can be corrected immediately.

The VHV5 supports verification of Code 128, Data Matrix and QR codes, as well as permanently marked DPM codes created using laser, dot peen or inkjet processes. The system applies internationally recognised standards including ISO/IEC 15416 for 1D barcode quality, ISO/IEC 15415 for 2D symbol grading and ISO/IEC TR 29158 for direct part marks.

OMRON has incorporated optical technologies to support reliable verification on challenging surfaces. Tilted coaxial lighting reduces glare and improves edge definition on reflective or curved materials such as metal parts, glossy labels and plastic packaging. Unwarp transform technology corrects image distortion caused by curved or angled surfaces, while flat field correction maintains consistent illumination across the entire viewing area.

The system also includes GS1 syntax checking, enabling manufacturers to validate the structure of encoded data as well as symbol quality. A browser‑based WebLink interface allows users to configure and monitor the verifier without additional software, while a guided calibration wizard simplifies installation and setup.

Inline barcode verification is widely used in sectors including automotive, electronics, pharmaceuticals and medical device manufacturing, where accurate traceability and regulatory compliance are essential. By combining ISO grading with real‑time inspection, the VHV5 is designed to ensure that every code applied during production meets quality standards before products leave the factory.
