Norwegian DSO-owned One Grid Operation has purchased GE Vernova’s GridOS orchestration software to enhance grid operations.

One Grid Operation, which is owned by two of Norway’s distribution system operators, Tensio AS and Linea AS, plans to implement the software over the next three years with the aim of accessing smarter methods of managing electricity supply and operations.

According to GE Vernova, GridOS is comprised of a platform and various applications aiming to enable secure, reliable grid orchestration while also delivering the resiliency and flexibility utilities need to modernise and transform to a sustainable energy grid.

One Grid Operation also plans to implement GE Vernova’s advanced distribution management system (ADMS) for secure management of the distribution grid and distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) for managing a broad array of DERs, such as wind power, battery storage, EVs and more.

The company has chosen to utilise a hybrid cloud strategy, with the ADMS deployed on-premise and the other GridOS applications running in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud.

Audhild Kvam, CEO of Tensio, and Steinar Benum, CEO of Linea, noted in a joint statement: “The energy landscape is getting more complex by the day.

“Demand for electricity is at an all-time high, extreme weather events are becoming more common, and renewable but intermittent energy sources are on the rise. To deal with these types of change drivers while continuing to deliver on the efficiency and security of our supply, we clearly see the need to significantly strengthen ourselves on the technology side.

“After a lengthy market assessment, we’re pleased to announce we’ve selected GE Vernova to support us in enabling smarter, better, more efficient management of our electricity supply and operations in the years to come.”

“This is a big and important milestone for us,” said Anna Nysetvold, CEO of One Grid Operation. “I look forward to embarking on this journey with Tensio and Linea’s skilled teams and in close collaboration with GE Vernova.”

Once the implementation is complete, the company will deliver grid control room services to owners Tensio and Linea.

Tensio is Norway’s third largest power grid company and operates the regional and distribution network in the central county of Trøndelag. Linea is responsible for delivering power to over 46,700 customers in Helgeland in Northern Norway.
