NHS Centre chooses Schneider Electric for patient care improvements

Schneider Electric partners with NHS to enhance patient care. The collaboration aims to integrate advanced energy-efficient technologies at the National Rehabilitation Centre. This initiative marks a significant step towards achieving the NHS’s net-zero goals, promising improved patient autonomy and reduced operational costs.

Schneider Electric, a leader in energy technology, is collaborating with the NHS National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) to enhance patient care and energy efficiency. The NRC, a purpose-built 70-bed facility for individuals recovering from life-changing illnesses or injuries, is operated by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This initiative follows a £105 million investment under the Government’s New Hospital Programme.

Notably, the NRC is the first building in England to achieve the NHS Net Zero Operational Building Standard, a critical milestone in the NHS’s ambition to reach net-zero by 2040. Schneider Electric’s deployment follows successful trials at Linden Lodge, a 25-bed neuro-rehabilitation unit, and includes several advanced technologies.

The EcoStruxure Connected Room Solution for Healthcare allows patients to independently control room conditions such as temperature, blinds, and lighting via a bedside terminal, body movements, or voice activation. This autonomy reduces dependency on clinical staff, allowing them to focus on patient care. The Building Data Platform integrates with the Connected Room Solution, securely managing IoT-enabled devices. Additionally, the EcoStruxure Building Operation system monitors and controls HVAC, lighting, and security, adjusting environmental conditions based on occupancy to enhance comfort and reduce energy costs.

Lisa Yates, Senior Commercial Analyst for the NRC, remarked, “Building the National Rehabilitation Centre has been a major undertaking. It’s been many years in the making, allowing us to understand challenges and test technology in a live environment.” Alice Williams, Schneider Electric’s VP of Digital Energy for UK&I, added, “We are incredibly proud to partner with the NRC on this landmark project, setting new standards for patient care, efficiency, and sustainability.”

This partnership exemplifies how innovation and sustainability can advance healthcare facilities, as the NHS continues its journey towards a sustainable future.
