New TPE overmoulded pushbutton switches for special vehicle, marine and medical applications provide enhanced protection against contaminants

Latest EAO Series 82 pushbutton switches manufactured in food-grade stainless steel and durable Tritan plastic offer all round IP67 protection.

Human Machine Interface (HMI) specialist EAO Ltd has extended its popular Series 82 family of pushbutton switches with the introduction of a new 22mm mount device manufactured in food grade SUS 316L stainless steel and Tritan light-grade plastic.

The new attractively designed illuminated Series 82 pushbutton devices feature TPE overmoulding that is highly resistant to damage from vibration or impact. It also provides the switch mechanism with reliable protection against cleaning agents and environmental contaminants. The chemical resistant Tritan plastic used for the button and lens ensures consistent clarity of the ring illumination.

The new Series 82 switches feature a built-in industry standard M12 connector at the rear of the unit. Connecting any suitable pre-wired M12 cable to this connector makes the new switches all round IP67 compliant.

Advantages of overmoulded Series 82 pushbutton switches

  • Rugged 316L stainless steel switch housing
  • High resistance to vibration and impact
  • 24VDC ring illuminated versions for status indication
  • Durable Tritan plastic illumination ring resistant to cleaning agents
  • 24VDC ring illuminated versions ideal for status indication
  • All round IP67 protection
  • Integrated M12 connector for fast and reliable mounting

According to Robert Davies, Marketing Manager with EAO Ltd., pushbutton HMIs are often exposed to extremely harsh external factors: In the food & beverage industry and medical applications for instance, the actuators in pushbutton HMIs are often suffer from corrosion due to their exposure to harsh cleaning agents, leading to reduced reliability: “Corrosion from alkaline cleaning agents joins other external factors found in in-cab driver/operator controls in special vehicle – hard-to-remove dirt, fine dust, severe vibrations and blunt impact – in shortening the lifetime of pushbutton HMIs”, Davies said. “The TPE overmoulding, 316L stainless-steel and Tritan plastic used in EAO’s new Series 82 switches all but eliminate these risk factors”.
