Intertronics has introduced the Dymax 9773 adhesive, specifically designed to enhance the reliability of electronic components in aerospace and defence applications. This adhesive is engineered for ruggedising and securing electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs), addressing the critical demands of these sectors for low outgassing and dielectric stability.
The Dymax 9773 is a single-part, light-curing adhesive suitable for electronics assembly and optical applications. Its low outgassing properties have been validated by passing the ASTM E595 standard, with low Total Mass Loss, and it is listed in NASA’s MAPTIS database. In high-reliability environments such as aerospace, even minimal vapour outgassing can impair optics, thermal control, or sensitive electronics, making compliance with NASA’s outgassing requirements vital.
This adhesive also meets the MIL-STD-883 Method 5011, ensuring it remains electrically insulating and dielectrically stable after exposure to high temperatures. In remote environments, ionic migration poses a significant reliability risk, necessitating adhesives that maintain stable electrical performance.
The defence industry, while maintaining its demand for extreme reliability, is shifting towards faster and more scalable production processes. Materials that uphold qualification standards while enhancing throughput are now prioritised over traditional, labour-intensive methods. Dymax 9773 cures in seconds under UV/visible light, offering a significant improvement over slower, multi-part epoxies or silicones, and is compatible with automated dispensing systems.
Matt Baseley, Head of Sales at Intertronics, stated, “This adhesive was designed to fulfil a range of purposes in mission-critical aerospace, defence, and optics applications.” The product’s solvent- and halogen-free composition is compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), aiding manufacturers in meeting environmental regulations such as the Defence Environmental Protection Regulations and the Environmental Protection Agency standards.
