Landis+Gyr HQ makes green gains with Egg’s solar and storage
Smart meter manufacturer Landis+Gyr’s new UK headquarters now generates 30% of its own energy, while saving 10,800kg of CO2 emissions thanks to the use of solar and battery storage technology.
This is according to new data released by Landis+Gyr and clean energy solutions provider Egg, partners in the creation of the Centre of Excellence for Smart Energy at the Landis+Gyr HQ in Manchester, UK.
Egg installed 256 solar panels on the roof of Landis+Gyr’s new building, creating the potential to harness up to 100kW of solar energy. Egg also installed three batteries, capable of storing up to 40kW of solar power.
The project also saw the installation of eight 22kW Etrel EV charge points in the car park.

Landis+Gyr uses its own Smart Energy Management (SEM) technology platform to analyse the energy generated and how it is used across the site.
The data released shows that since the solution was completed in June 2022:
● 70 MWh of solar power generated, covering 30% of usage
● 11 MWh of EV charging delivered over 700 charging sessions
● 10,800kg of CO2 emissions saved from the use of solar and battery
● Reduced peak period energy usage by 37% and off-peak by 19% with intelligent use of solar and energy storage capabilities
Rob Harper, director of sales and market development at Landis+Gyr said; “From the outset, it was of the utmost importance that our brand new HQ building should incorporate clean energy solutions and reflect our aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
“We help utility companies worldwide improve their operations…so we are incredibly proud that our flagship UK site can be seen as a case study in how such actions can produce immediate impact. With the pressure of rising energy costs already for both businesses and consumers, we hope we can encourage more businesses to prioritise clean energy solutions such as those provided by Landis+Gyr and Egg.”
Landis+Gyr and Egg plan to collaborate on future projects and use this data as a working case study of the benefits of integrated solutions.
