John Paul Jones and Double Dutch sail into new waters with first canned cocktail

John Paul Jones Rum (JPJ) has launched its first ever ready-to-drink (RTD) canned cocktail – a light, refreshing rum-based blend created in partnership with premium drinks company, Double Dutch.

The 250ml can combines JPJ’s trademark dark and dry Lowland Rum with Double Dutch’s Cucumber and Watermelon mixer, which it says will “totally revolutionise” the canned rum experience.

With a 4.5% ABV, the cocktail’s designers reject the common sticky flavours, heavy sugars and sharp spirits of some other rum-based canned cocktails. This serve instead offers a fruity, light and low calorie summer drink, tailor-made for BBQ parties, picnics and enjoying with friends. Tailor-made for the modern day rum drinker.

Finnian Gill, founder and head of product at John Paul Jones said of the “perfect pairing” with Double Dutch and its first foray into the RTD sector.

“As companies we are fuelled by the same swashbuckling spirit and our first collaboration blending our seaweed-infused Lowland Rum with their Cucumber and Watermelon mixer certainly goes against the mainstream,” said Gill. “What’s more, it has also proved extremely popular when trialled at various food festivals earlier in the summer. If Pimms and Mojito had a child, this would be it!”

The introduction of a ready-to-drink canned cocktail puts further wind into JPJ’s sails. In recent months the insurgent rum company has launched the first ever seaweed infused white rum, Ranger, as well as an Islay cask aged rum, Providence – both take their names from naval ships commanded by the company’s namesake and inspiration, the fearless Scottish born naval captain, John Paul Jones.
