interpack 2023: Amcor and IMA Ilapak showcase versatile and more sustainable dairy packaging solutions
Amcor and IMA Ilapak will showcase versatile and more sustainable dairy packaging solutions at Interpack.
At the event, IMA Ilapak will display the world’s first variable geometry flow wrapper machine, the Delta OF-360 X, a breakthrough that can run any packaging material, from paper-based to complex laminates and recyclable mono-polymer films. This horizontal form fill seal (HFFS) machine addresses the need for manufacturers and packers to switch easily between different substrates at a time when the future of more sustainable packaging is fluid and uncertain.
One of the first innovations to run on the Delta OF-360 X is Amcor’s AmPrima film; a recycle-ready packaging solution for dairy products.
AmPrima mono-material PE or PP films are lightweight, flexible, and ideal for dairy products, with elevated barrier properties that ensure freshness and quality. Designed to be recycle-ready today, the solution is certified by cyclos-HTP institute for recyclability in most European countries where the PE or PP recycling stream is in place.
With AmPrima, dairy brands can lower the environmental impact of their packaging. Compared to standard, non-recyclable dairy packaging, AmPrima can achieve reductions in non-renewable energy use, lower packaging’s carbon footprint and reduce water consumption.
By switching to AmPrima, one Amcor dairy customer was able to lower their packaging’s carbon footprint by 41% and water consumption by 11%, the equivalent of turning off 1,640 ten-minute showers. The AmPrima packaging range adheres to CEFLEX design for circularity guidelines for PE recycling streams.
“We are excited to showcase our innovation alongside IMA Ilapak at Interpack 2023, and we’re confident that our combined efforts will help manufacturers and packers meet their production efficiency goals while meeting consumer desire for improved sustainability,” said Yi Jiang, marketing director dairy, Amcor EMEA.
