SCHUNK News
Innovative, ergonomic, quickly put into operation: The intelligent design of the SCHUNK EGH makes automation with cobots especially easy, and this is the reason why the gripper was awarded with the prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2021 in the ”product design“ category.
The SCHUNK EGH gripper enables easy entry into the working world with cobots. The starter kit of the plug & work capable module comes pre-assembled to the customer and includes all necessary components for assembly and commissioning: from the adapter plate, suitable sets of fingers, assembly tool up to plug-ins for a seamless implementation into the robot control of robots from Universal Robots or Techman Robot. Commissioning and programming of the EGH universal gripper are done intuitively and can be completed within 30 minutes. With its flexible fingers and a variably adjustable stroke of 80 mm, the gripper covers a particulary broad workpiece range and is versatile in use. Control via IO-Link allows for the finger position to be individually defined and the gripper status to be evaluated for each gripping process. Parallel kinematics ensure constant gripping force over the entire stroke. The intelligent gripper also scores in terms of ergonomics and design: Its outside contour is rounded and equipped with softtouch elements, making it easy and pleasant to guide. The EGH is especially suitable for use in cells with protective fences or for applications, where there is no direct overlap between human and robot workspaces (coexistence).
Typical fields of application are handling and Pick&Place tasks in clean and slightly dirty environments such as in the automotive and electrical industries, or in metal-cutting companies. The individual status of the gripper can be indicated via an integrated LED light band, enabling smooth interaction between humans and cobots. The intelligent, flexible gripper from the competence leader for gripping systems and clamping technology convinces functionally as well as optically with its sophisticated concept and attractive design. The jury of the world’s most significant Red Dot Design Award 2021 was notably impressed and honored the EGH gripper in the category “product design.” Jurors evaluated the design quality and degree of innovation of products from around 60 countries in a multi-day process. This year, more companies and design studios applied than ever before in the 60-year history of the award.
