ifm introduces new leak detection device

ifm unveils the SDL100, enhancing industrial leak detection accuracy. The handheld device employs ultrasonic MEMS technology with 30 microphones for detecting faint leaks amidst noise. Equipped with a laser distance system and camera, it offers real-time visualisation and documentation of leaks, aiding in efficient maintenance and cost reduction.

ifm, a leader in industrial automation technology, has introduced the SDL100, a cutting-edge handheld device designed for precise leak detection in compressed air and gas systems. This innovation leverages advanced ultrasonic MEMS technology, incorporating 30 ultrasonic microphones to capture even the faintest leak sounds in noisy environments. Equipped with a laser distance measurement system and a built-in camera, the SDL100 allows operators to visualise leaks on its 3.5-inch display, providing real-time identification and contextual imaging of leak locations. Impressively, the device can detect and document leaks as small as 0.1 litres per minute at 6 bar from up to 5 metres away, showcasing exceptional sensitivity.

Users can input basic tariff costs to instantly calculate ongoing compressed air loss and its associated costs, providing actionable insights into site losses from air leaks. All critical data, including maintenance details, are digitally recorded on the device and can be transferred seamlessly for further analysis. The free reporting software simplifies compliance with ISO 50001 requirements, ensuring efficient documentation and audit readiness.

Weighing just 698 grams and featuring ergonomic, user-friendly controls, the SDL100 is designed for portability and ease of use, whether for regular system checks or targeted inspections following data-driven analyses. Its applications span manufacturing, food processing, HVAC, facility maintenance, and any industry committed to operational efficiency and resource conservation.

By significantly reducing the time needed to identify and resolve leaks, the SDL100 enables users to minimise system losses, lower operating costs, and maintain process reliability.
