Bilbao-headquartered Iberdrola España has launched ATuAire, a company specialising in aerothermal energy in Spain, which aims to spearhead and facilitate access to the technology.
ATuAire, focused on the tertiary, industrial and residential community sector, designs turnkey customised solutions combining the most efficient technologies with each client’s need. To do this, ATuAire’s team of experts analyse the existing infrastructure, energy consumption and comfort requirements, and provide a solution that makes the most of the existing installations, avoiding any unnecessary construction that would increase the investment.
Aerothermal energy is a heat pump that uses the energy from the outside air to produce heating in winter, cooling in summer, and hot water all year round. This sustainable technology is four times more efficient than a conventional fossil fuel boiler.
To ease the transition to this technology, ATuAire says they will advance the investment and finances 100% of the project under Iberdrola España’s particular conditions.

In addition, the company is responsible for designing and customising a solution for each customer, from permits to implementation and commissioning. Once the installation is operational, the company is also responsible for maintenance and offers a 100% green electricity plan, which includes individualised proposals and access to products that before had been reserved for large customers, such as long-term clean power purchase agreements (PPAs).
ATuAire also offers the possibility of increasing savings from the installation of aerothermal energy by combining it with the thermal insulation of facades and roofs, which reduces energy consumption and increases residents’ feeling of comfort.
With own produced solar, the solution also increases independence from fossil fuels as it allows 100% renewable energy to be consumed close to the source.
Commenting in a release was Pablo Collado, CEO of ATuAire: “The economy’s total decarbonisation won’t be possible without electrifying heat. ATuAire is born to accelerate the transition to more sustainable and efficient HVAC, leading and activiating the industry, as we did in Iberdrola España more than 25 years ago with renewables.”
Heat accounts for 41% of final energy consumption in Spain. The European directive on buildings’ energy performance requires all new buildings, both public and private, to be zero-emission by 2030, extending this requirement to all buildings, both new and existing, by 2050.
