Collaboration will put city of Bilbao centre-stage of energy transition dialogue

Global clean energy company Iberdrola has unveiled a ‘milestone’ strategic partnership with Enlit, the publisher of Smart Energy International.

The alliance will see the vibrant city of Bilbao host the Enlit Europe conference and exhibition in 2025 at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre.

Before then, the two organisations will collaborate to spotlight the challenges and opportunities facing the European energy sector.

This alliance kicks off at Enlit Europe in Paris this year, when Elena León Muñoz, Networks CEO of Iberdrola Group, and Nicolas Arcauz, Smart Grids director at Iberdrola Spain, will be among the high-profile speakers.

Asís Canales Abaitua, Director of People and Services at Iberdrola, said that the collaboration “aligns perfectly with our mission to promote sustainable energy solutions and contribute to the global energy transition”.

“We are excited to bring Enlit Europe to Bilbao in 2025.”

Paddy Young, Director of Enlit, hailed the partnership with Iberdrola as “a significant milestone”.

“It showcases the trust and credibility our brand has garnered in a short period.”

This year’s Enlit Europe in Paris will be the third iteration of the event, which next year will travel to Milan before arriving in Bilbao in 2025.

Evolving energy transition

Young said Bilbao will “provide an exceptional backdrop for this event, and the involvement of Iberdrola will undoubtedly enhance the experience for both exhibitors and visitors”.

He added that the collaboration will leverage Iberdrola’s extensive expertise and network in the energy sector to bolster Enlit’s commitment to delivering high-quality content programs in sync with the evolving energy market.

Traditionally, there has always been a successful public-private collaboration in Basque Country. Regional authorities, including the Basque Government, Bizkaia Region Council and Bilbao City Council, are collaborating and committed to the success of the end-to-end energy event.

He added: “Iberdrola’s Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, located in Bilbao, is consolidating its position as a global centre of innovation and knowledge in smart grids to help respond to the challenges of the energy transition.

“The centre acts as a driving force for innovation, combining Iberdrola’s technological capacity with that of more than 80 collaborating entities and companies.”
