Gunsan plant starts silicon-carbon battery production

Nexeon’s Gunsan facility reaches production-ready status in Korea. This milestone establishes the plant as the first global volume production site for silicon-carbon materials, enhancing lithium-ion battery performance. The location ensures a reliable supply of critical materials, offering proximity to leading Asian battery cell producers.

Nexeon’s production facility in Gunsan, Korea, has successfully achieved production-ready status, marking a significant milestone as the first volume production site globally for silicon-carbon materials dedicated to enhancing lithium-ion battery performance. The facility’s location ensures a reliable supply of critical monosilane gas, a key precursor material, facilitated by close supplier partnerships, enabling efficient and uninterrupted manufacturing. Its proximity to leading Asian battery cell producers accelerates integration into existing battery supply chains. This strategic positioning allows Nexeon to leverage its leading global IP position in the silicon-carbon battery landscape, effectively serving global markets with an expansive customer footprint.

The successful commissioning of the Gunsan plant positions Nexeon for sustainable, low-risk capacity expansion. As demand for high-performance battery materials escalates, the facility’s design allows for the systematic introduction of additional reactors to rapidly scale production. Dr Scott Brown, CEO of Nexeon, stated, “This achievement consolidates our position as a secure volume supplier for the world’s most demanding cell manufacturers. The silicon-carbon materials produced at the Gunsan facility are designed to significantly increase the energy density and charging speed of lithium-ion batteries, addressing critical performance requirements for the electric vehicle (EV) and consumer electronics markets.”

Nexeon reports a robust pipeline of commercial agreements with global OEMs and battery manufacturers. The latest manufacturing capacity development ensures that the company is well positioned to deliver on these opportunities. Nexeon is now advancing to the final customer production qualification processes under rigorous automotive quality standards.
