gridX – core of E.ON One
German digital energy solution provider gridX has become a full subsidiary of E.ON and is part of the company’s newly founded digitalisation subsidiary E.ON One.
E.ON, which acquired a majority stake in gridX in September 2021, has now acquired the remaining shares.
gridX founded in 2016 will remain a stand-alone managed company within E.ON, with significant growth anticipated as the energy sector continues to digitalise its activities.
Accompanying this acquisition is a change of management, with the two founders, David Balensiefen and Andreas Booke, respectively the current CEO and MD, moving into an advisory role from April 1, 2023.

Tim Steinmetz, currently chief growth officer at gridX, will become the new managing director as of January 1, 2023.
Tobias Mitter, director of E.ON Inhouse Consulting, joins gridX on February 1 as a second MD and chief technology officer with responsibility for product development.
gridX has developed the smart grid platform XENON and the gridBox to enable control and optimisation of connected devices.
The solution provides customers with digital access to data, so they can actively view and control it. For example, users can choose to charge their electric car when a connected solar panel produces an abundance of electricity.
Devices controlled by XENON produced 21GWh of energy during 2022. Additionally, more than 200,000 charging cycles ran and were controlled via XENON in 2022 in total.
gridX’s energy management solution is also in use at E.ON’s headquarters in Essen. An intelligent load management system was installed that enables dynamic charging of electric vehicles. More EVs can be charged with increased charging power on existing grid infrastructure and with the same capacity. In this way, the available energy is optimised.
As an indicator of the potential, in 2022 alone gridX is expected to more than double both its revenue and the number of employees.
