Gridspertise – Enel’s new smart grid development subsidiary

Enel has unveiled Gridspertise as a new subsidiary to provide smart grid solutions to distribution networks across the globe.

The new company, owned through the Enel Global Infrastructure and Networks subsidiary, will leverage on Enel’s expertise in testing, assessing and scaling up smart grid technologies to provide solutions focussed in the three main areas of metering and grid edge, networks infrastructure and field operations.

Target markets will start with the countries where the Enel Group already has a strong presence including Italy and Romania in Europe and Chile and Colombia in Latin America, and expanding towards North America and Asia-Pacific where the investment in smart grids will drive infrastructure upgrade projects in the near future.

The CEO of Gridspertise is Robert Denda, Head of Innovation & Industrialization at Enel Global Infrastructure and Networks. Among other experiences, in a long career with Endesa he was coordinator of its 13 million smart meter rollout in Spain.

“Gridspertise’s mission is to become a trusted partner for DSOs all over the world,” says Denda.

“The company will help electricity distribution companies of any size and geography to roll out integrated smart grid solutions in order to meet the evolving needs of grid users and electricity end-customers,”

The offer is structured around three main domains of DSOs’ digitalisation needs.

Metering and grid edge digitalisation – Meterspertise – is focused on increasing customer engagement and stakeholder participation through smart metering and grid edge technologies.

Network infrastructure digitalisation – Networkspertise – is aimed at boosting intelligence and the flexibility of power grids.

Field operations digitalisation – Fieldspertise – is aimed at increasing operational efficiency through innovative solutions for planning and operation processes.

A statement says that Gridspertise’s portfolio of products and services highlights its commitment to “delivering innovative, circular-by-design, robust solutions that have been field-tested at a large scale in order to achieve sustainable and reliable smart grids while promoting more efficient energy usage and enabling new services”.
