Greg Jackson, CEO of Octopus Energy Group, has been appointed as a non-executive member of the UK’s Cabinet Office Board for a period of three years.

Appointed by UK prime minister Keir Starmer, Jackson’s term started on 21st July 2025, less than two weeks after the UK rejected zonal pricing, opting to rather reform the existing national pricing system.

Jackson was a big proponent for zonal pricing, which he said on X would “see prices fall everywhere. Unlike today’s postcode lottery which punishes Wales, Northern England, Scotland – the home to so much generation.”

Now, Jackson has been appointed the position of influence, charged with providing ‘support and challenge’ to the department’s ministers and senior officials on the delivery of key policies and programmes.

Jackson’s formal appointment comes months after reportage by Politico detailing Westminster’s growing respect for the tech tycoon, who started Octopus Energy in 2015, bringing it to a £9 billion ($12.2 billion) valuation with global reach.

Politico cites official documents showing that, in the 12 weeks following Labour’s win in July 2024, Jackson and his colleagues met new Labour energy ministers 10 times after dozens of meetings with conservative leaders in their final full year in office.

According to reportage by The Guardian, Jackson has also maintained strong links in the government after previously serving as head of the pressure group Labour List.

In addition to his chief role with Octopus Energy Group, Jackson has previously worked as the co-founder and chairman of Consultant Connect Ltd (2015-2022), managing director of HomeService Alliance (2013-15), non executive director at Zopa (2010-18), CEO of Tangent Labs (2008-10) and CEO/Founder of C360 UK Ltd.

Jackson is also an Honorary Fellow at Pembroke College Cambridge, and holds an Honorary Doctorate at the University of Teesside.

Jackson’s term is set to conclude in 2028.
