Geotab adds Hyundai native telematics option

Hyundai fleets can now connect to Geotab without retrofit hardware. The Europe-wide launch extends OEM telematics access for mixed ICE and EV fleets, with high-frequency GPS, maintenance data, and battery insights delivered through the cloud.


Geotab has launched a hardware-free telematics integration for Hyundai vehicles across Europe, giving fleet operators direct access to OEM vehicle data through the MyGeotab platform without the need to install aftermarket devices.

The integration covers both internal combustion and electric vehicles and is now available across more than 40 European markets. For fleet managers, the practical appeal is straightforward: lower installation cost, less vehicle downtime, and faster rollout across mixed fleets. The commercial significance is broader. Native telematics is steadily shifting fleet data capture away from the traditional black-box retrofit model and towards direct cloud connectivity between vehicle manufacturers and fleet software providers.

Geotab said supported Hyundai vehicles can feed through a wide range of data points, including 10-second GPS on newer models, engine health indicators, coolant temperature, oil pressure, diesel particulate filter status, seatbelt usage, airbag deployment, ADAS forward vehicle distance, tyre pressure, EV state of charge, charging state, and battery cell temperature. For operators running both ICE and EV assets, that kind of standardised view is increasingly important as utilisation, maintenance planning, driver management, and charging operations all have to sit inside the same system.

Christoph Ludewig, vice president of OEM for EMEA at Geotab, said the partnership gives customers “instant access to high-quality vehicle data”. Marcus Welz, chief executive of Hyundai Connected Mobility, framed the launch around remote activation and scale. Taken together, that points to where the telematics market is heading: less time spent fitting hardware and more emphasis on how quickly data can be turned into usable operational decisions.

The remaining question is how far and how fast OEM integrations can close the gaps that have historically kept aftermarket devices relevant, particularly around fleet-wide standardisation across multiple brands. Geotab’s expanding partner network is part of that answer, and Hyundai’s addition strengthens the case for native telematics as the default route for new vehicle deployments.
